Annual Events

Special Services

2011-2012

Christmas Eve, December 24, 2011: A special children's service designed for younger children and their families will be held at 5 PM. Traditional Christmas services of lessons and carols take place at 7, 9, and 11 PM in a seasonally decorated Sanctuary. The candlelight services include carols by choirs and soloists, as well as a meditation from the senior minister.

Ash Wednesday: An Ash Wednesday Communion Service will be held at 7 PM on February 22, 2012. The Imposition of Ashes will be available to all who desire it.

Palm Sunday: On April 1, 2012, the Sunday before Easter, services will be held at 8:45 and 10:45. The services remind us of Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

Maundy Thursday: On Maundy Thursday, April 5, 2012, our worship is at 8 PM and follows the ancient Order of Tenebrae. In remembrance of the Last Supper, we share Holy Communion.

Good Friday: On Good Friday, April 6, 2012, worship will be held at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary.

Easter: On April 8, 2012, our traditional Easter Sunday services will be held at 8:45 and 10:45 AM. Special music and flowers enhance this great celebration of Christ's Resurrection. Children are welcome at all services.

Youth Sunday and Senior Recognition Sunday, May 13, 2012: Each spring the congregation celebrates Senior Recognition Sunday to congratulate the graduating high school seniors. Worship will be led by the youth of the church.

Confirmation, May 20, 2012: Confirmation is an important step in each student's Christian walk as he or she has the opportunity to confirm what has taken place at his/her baptism. Confirmation takes place during the 10:45 AM service.

Blessing of the Animals, October 7: Blessing of the animals dates back to the fourth century, when San Antonio de Abad was recognized as the Patron Saint of the Animal Kingdom. In those days, the people would take their Animals to the priest to receive a blessing and ask for fertility and health. Today, Blessing of the animals commemorates the ministry of St. Francis, who was known to preach the Gospel to the birds. We bless animals and owners in gratitude to God for the gift of their companionship, service and to acknowledge our special responsibilities to them.

Services of Healing and Hope: Twice a year these mid-week evening services offer words from Scripture, prayers and poets, music of angels and the ancient ritual of the laying on hands. We open ourselves to the potential and power of God’s healing love. You may bring your concerns or the concerns of others to the healing stations as we all participate in this ancient ritual of invoking the Holy Spirit.

Faith Pledge Sunday, on a designated Sunday in the fall: Thanksgiving and praise marks this service when members and friends step out in faith to offer their financial support of our ministry together. As this is a deeply personal decision between each member and God, an extended time of prayer punctuates this worship service.

All Saints, November 4, 2012: During both of our Sunday morning services, members of ACC and friends will remember those who have gone before us. We affirm God's presence with us in prayer and celebrate their presence in the communion of the saints with the tolling of our church bell.
