"What I love about Alpha is that everyone is welcome and every

Adult Education at Acton Congregational Church

In this ministry adults encounter practical truths and each other as faith
develops and matures. We gather to study, grow and be nurtured as Jesus'
disciples. Our ministry takes many forms: a small-group Bible study; a
Sunday morning discussion group; or an evening class on the basics of
Christian faith. Opportunities for spiritual growth and deeper relationships
are our mission.
Alpha
The Alpha Course, a practical exploration of Christianity, has spread very rapidly around the world from its beginnings in England and has proved to be of great interest to both long-time churchgoers and also to skeptical people who have serious questions about the faith.
The 10-week course is presented on a series of videotapes dealing with topics such as "Why Did Jesus Have to Die?", "How Does God Guide Us?" and "How Can I Be Filled with the Holy Spirit?"
Acton Congregational Church runs two courses each year, providing a free buffet dinner to begin each week's class and an opportunity to discuss each topic in a friendly, unpressured small group setting. In the middle of each course is a day and a half "weekend away" in nearby Weston, which gives participants a chance to explore some topics in greater depth. More details are provided at free introductory dinners that precede each course.
Women's Ministeries
The goal of Women’s Ministries is to support the spiritual growth of women. Under the umbrella of Adult Christian Education, this is accomplished by providing: Bible study, prayer, personal reflection, and worship to support interpersonal and spiritual growth; fellowship activities for joining together to develop meaningful relationships; events that reach out to others in the congregation and the surrounding community; and service to help others in need with the goal of supporting women to respond to scripture, follow Christ’s example, and nurture a relationship with God.
Faith Sharing
At Faith Sharing, we grow in faith by gathering weekly from September to May to explore scripture, support one another, and pray together. Through lecture, exploring scripture passages, and large and small group discussion, women gain insights about how to live out their Christian faith. The group is a diverse mix of women, some of whom are experienced and others new to Bible study. Our lay leaders direct us toward greater knowledge and a broader understanding of scripture as we deepen our faith in God. Our lives are enriched by the fellowship and support for one another. All are welcome. We gather from 9:45-11:15 AM on Thursdays at the church. Childcare is provided.
Women's Retreat
All women are welcome on our three-day, two-night retreat which takes place each spring. Each year we gather to worship, have fun, and learn together with the help of an experienced retreat leader. This is a wonderful opportunity for rest, relaxation and spiritual renewal, as well as an opportunity to make new friends. Please join us for the Women's Retreat!
The Marriage Course
As part of ACC’s Adult Education, The Marriage Course, over seven evenings, provides practical tools to build and maintain a healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime. Each evening features a sociable dinner, a videotaped presentation and a comfortable opportunity for couples talk in private about important issues that are seldom dealt with in daily life. Any married couple is welcome.
Small Groups
Small groups meet for prayer, learning and sharing through the week in local
residences. Call the church office for details.
